Mazie is a 15h black mare with just a few white hairs in her forehead and on her lower lip. She is a direct daughter of Lined With Cash and out of A Special Delivery, a daughter of A Specialist, who was a force to be reckoned with in the Amateur Ranks at the Celebration in the early 2000's. Check his show records on IPEDS to see a remarkable Celebration performance record. He could have easily been a great horse except for the circumstances that surrounded him. When purchased by Arthur and Susan Gordon he quickly became a formidable performer primarily with Susan in the saddle, but was primarily an amateur mount, and that's not the easiest way to build a horse's legacy. Campaigning him mostly on the west coast (other than at Celebration time) didn't give him the attention the Tennessee circuit horses received. Sadly, with Mrs. Gordon's tragic passing, Mr. Gordon dispersed the the horses, and A Specialist had an eight year gap in his show career and changed hands a couple times. Almost exactly eight years to the day that he won the Amateur Owners on Walking Horses WGC for the Gordon's, his newest owner (Judy McDonald) showed him at the Celebration to a Second of sixteen entrants and a second out of nine entrants. In 16 classes she showed A Specialist, Ms. McDonald placed First six times and second five. His only poor showing came when they tried him in s Show Pleasure class. People appreciated him enough that he registered 300 foals. Mazie herself is a well built, sensible gal with a very nice way of going. She was late getting started under saddle, but got plenty of ground to get her ready for riding. My then 8 year old was the first to ride her, and I wouldn't have allowed that (I don't take risks with any of my grand kids), but when he asked if he could, we lead lined them for about 15 minutes in the barnyard, and then turned them loose. They both did great. I have a video of that session that I will post here soon.I would call her barely green broke, as she's only been ridden 4 or 5 times since because of this covid situation, but she's the closest of any foal I have fooled with to being that one that just comes into the world broke. |
